Switchabit

fred-wilson:

I’ve struggled with the best way to get my twitter activity on to this tumblog. At first, I used tumblr’s twitter integration to pull all of my twitters onto this page. I never liked that very much because I twitter a lot and it ended up overwhelming this page.

So I moved to the Twitter Digest that JoeLaz hacked up using Yahoo Pipes. It worked well but it gets truncated in the new Tumblr and worse, it’s a day late. By the time it ends up on Tumblr, it’s often irrelevant.

So when I heard about switchabit, the new service from betaworks, I thought “that’s what I need for twitter to tumblr”. And so I set up a switchabit called ##t. When I put ##t into my twitter update, it will be routed to tumblr. When I don’t. It won’t.

Sounds perfect. You’ll start seeing my twitter posts here (the ones I want here) with ##t at the end of them.

with the exception of their sign-up process needing a little debugging (it didn’t recognize my poor little zip code), this looks seriously promising.  i’ve been conflicted about distributed platforms lately and the value of them vs. keeping everything in one place.  we’ll see how this affects that.
