darshan bavaria rules.

that’s pretty much all you need to know, but for the sake of this occasion, i will elaborate.

i now have functional archives dating back to 2001.  tumblr wasn’t around in 2001.  you might’ve not been around in 2001.  i was.  in college and on livejournal.  i eventually made the switch to WP and had a fairly hasty affair with self-hosted content.

then, like jake, i got busy…and WP broke.  that’s the short story.

my livejournal had a great design.  it was awesome.  people read it.  people commented.  i was so emo and swore too much.  then, i realized, it was livejournal.  mind you, livejournal came after many, many static web sites.  starting in 1993 w/ a concentric-hosted neon yellow (blue text & blink tag ftw) homepage and wading through geocities, tripod, etc.  back then, when you were counting the minutes the 36k modem was eating up while logged onto AOL 3.0…free hosting space was like finding water in the desert.

i digress.  i eventually made it to about-blank.net (long gone - gold star to whoever knows where i took that name from) and thought since i could use photoshop brushes, i was a good web designer.  i used to host people.  remember when you would host other people?  livejounal came along and about-blank.net was just a landing page and hosting space for all the photos that hit my first few years of livejournal.  a few years ago, i made the switch and started using ratcliffe-lee.com (which is now a family journal) as the place where i hosted all my photos.  like an idiot, i let about-blank.net lapse and with it when a lot of image hyperlinks.

unperturbed, WP comes along and i have lots of so-so themes.  it eventually reaches a point where i finally have a theme i love but no time to actually post anything.  that doesn’t mean WP doesn’t stop updating itself.  somewhere around 2.a;ldkjfl;adf…my WP install broke pretty good.  with no time to blog or the knowledge to fix it myself, i started using flickr and then eventually…tumblr.

this is rambling, i know.

so what happens now?  with the exception of  15 posts, the majority of my content produced for the web is under one roof.  i owe a debt of gratitude to darshan bavaria for getting me here.  he was kind enough to write a script that imported posts from WP to tumblr.  he was kind enough to help me get it working.  he was kind enough to be completely awesome.  along with “sexy new dress” (aka new theme) from cameron, i think i’ve finally arrived.

what isn’t here and what happens next (after what happens/has happened now..errr)?  you’ll notice around the beginning of 2005, or 2004 (i can’t remember), that going backward there are posts with no images.  or the post will talk about photos that won’t be there.  those were all the stuffs hosted on about-blank.net.  i never did put them on ratcliffe-lee.com and i still have to get everything on flickr.  no more cat and mouse of pulling up stakes and moving everything somewhere each time a new CMS comes to town.  i’ve learned my lesson and will trust the cloud.  images will sit on flickr.  text will be here.  other stuff will be other places.  aggregation and context.  wee.

if you’re on tumblr, sorry i bombed your dashboard.
